My Favorites on Friday

Emery really loves her dad. She is by far much more a daddy's kid than any of my others were.  She asks for him all day. This is them going for their daily walk to the mail box. All he has to do is show her the key and she comes running.

Easter Events

This weekend was a bit of a whirlwind. Well actually last week was a bit of a blur. After Emery's surgery, she was doing well until about Thursday night. ( obviously I typed my last post on Thursday afternoon and post dated it before I knew what we were in for when nap time was over)  She started running a fever and was miserable through the night. When she woke up on Friday her little nose was swollen and red. I called the doctor and he started her on antibiotics for infection. She was not herself and miserable all weekend. So some of the plans we had didn't happen, but we did manage to squeeze a few things in.

We started the weekend with coloring a few eggs. I kind of wanted to skip this with all that had been going on, but the kids had been asking, so we hurried and squeezed it in during the short nap time Emery allowed us.

Saturday I took the kids to our ward Easter breakfast. I knew we couldn't miss this, so Corey stayed home while Emery got some much needed sleep and brought her over for just the last few minutes.  Right after those two joined us and just as we were finishing up our food, we heard this...

...we hurried over to the grass, got the kids grouped together just in time for this...

...amazing, it's raining eggs. Could there be anything more fun?

According to Brendan, it was awesome. It must have been because I couldn't even find him or Kayden on the field they were getting their eggs so fast.

I found them not too much later enjoying their spoils.

Emery didn't feel quite the same about the whole experience. She was terrified of the helicopter, was still not feeling well, and never even asked to get out of the stroller. It's a good thing she was only there for a few minutes.

Sunday morning we checked to see if the Easter Bunny had visited. He certainly had and he even managed to hide a few eggs for everybody to find, he is always so sneaky that way.

Emery once again, was not so thrilled with life

she did start to come around though and found a few eggs to add to her basket

We got all dressed up and ready for church and by then, finally, Emery had started to act like herself again and even pulled out a few smiles.

I always have to try to get one of all of them together even though my efforts are usually wasted.
It was a rough week, but I hope my other kids were able to enjoy a few things while still taking care of Emery. It's so hard to balance that sometimes. In the middle of all this, I was preparing my sharing time for Sunday too and at first I just kept thinking about how that was just one more thing to get done, but I am  glad I was able to prepare it. It never goes exactly as planned, but I was grateful for the opportunity to teach about and remind myself of the reason why we celebrate Easter. I hope my kids remember a little of that too.

My Favorites on Friday

my favorite patient
Emery is such a little trooper. She had her fourth nose surgery on Wednesday and did amazing. She did much better this time. They didn't rush her to come to and also gave her medicine to help with nausea. I was grateful for that because she has always gotten sick after previous surgeries and we didn't have any of that this time.  I also always worry that she is going to be in pain, but it never really seems to bother her. The Doctor was really aggressive with this surgery. He does not want to have to do it again and neither do we. He actually removed a lot of healthy tissue and fat and even cauterized the inside of her nose, which is something he doesn't normally do, but he doesn't want to leave any chance of this stupid cyst reoccurring again.  The cartilage in her nose is already damaged from the original mass and with what he did yesterday she may require another surgery when she is older to add fat back in and reshape her nose. We will just have to see how it looks as she grows. But for now, once again, we are happy to have it over with.

My Favorites on Friday (birthday edition)

To my five year old girl...

...who introduced pink into our lives
who lets me do her hair and dress her up (just don't put jewelry on her)
who still loves horses and her brown boots

who NEVER lets her voice go unheard
who enjoys cereal for dinner as much as I do
who LOVES chocolate

who has eyelashes to die for
who loves her time with friends
who has enough sass to go around

who is so excited for kindergarten
who mixes up her "f" and "th" sounds sometimes
who always comes in "thirst" place

who makes me smile
who I am grateful for
who I love everyday

Happy birthday to my "thirst" 5 year old girl, I hope you enjoy your day

Miss Manners

Obviously our lesson on manners is not being heard. Our food thief is just getting more and more bold in her life of crime.

My Favorites on Friday

Brendan doing one of my favorite things

I loved playing basketball, back in the day before I got old and slow, but my kids haven't quite had the same passion for it. But Brendan has sure been doing a lot of this lately so maybe he will have the same love I did.

A thief among us

In our house if you are not done eating or drinking, you better not leave your stuff unattended. Otherwise it will probably be gone when you return.

Emery really thinks everyone else's stuff is better and is fair game.

My drink
 Hailey's orange slices
Now it's one thing to get food from the table, but she is getting a little more crafty. She now lugs the step stools from the bathrooms and uses them to get just a little extra boost allowing her access to much more.
Sometimes she doesn't even give you the courtesy of leaving and rudely interrupts your meal by eating right off your plate.
We really need to work on her manners.
