Such Entertainment

Brendan had his first T-Ball game on Saturday. It was so fun to watch. Watching 3 & 4 year olds playing can be amusing anyway, but throw a bat and ball in there and it really is quite entertaining. Brendan was so excited that morning, he had himself all dressed in his uniform hours beforehand. When the game got started, he was upset because he was batting last. Corey convinced him it was the best though because he got to run through all the bases without stopping. That did it for him, now I'm afraid he will always want to be the last batter. He did run straight for second base when he hit though. He really went after the ball a few times and ended up at the bottom of a couple of dog piles and covered in dirt, but he enjoyed it all. Especially his snack at the end of the game.

What a way to start the morning!!

Easter morning began with a little bit of excitement around our house. Sometime in the early morning, I was startled awake by the sound of the doorbell. I wasn't sure if I had really heard it or not, I had been in a really deep sleep, and neither the kids or Corey were disturbed by it. I went and just looked out the upstairs front windows, I thought that it was probably just punk kids, but I couldn't see anything so I just went back to bed. Well, about 5:30, I heard it again and this time Corey woke up too so I knew I hadn't just dreamed it. He went downstairs to check things out and I followed a few minutes after. He said he looked out the blinds in the front room and there was someone just sitting on our front bench smoking a cigarette. It wasn't anyone we knew, I began to feel a little creeped out. Corey said he would try to get him to leave, but I didn't want to even open the door. I thought we should just call the police. I called and went back upstairs to watch for them to come. Pretty soon one police car drove by, I guess he decided to call for backup before approaching the guy, because pretty soon another car pulled into the neighborhood. They approached the man and asked why he was there. He was so out of it. He wouldn't follow their instructions and wouldn't take his hands out of his pockets so the next thing I knew they were taking him down to the ground, breaking our bush along the way. Soon after another police car came flying around the corner with two more policeman. Once they got him to the ground and searched him. They did find a knife in his pocket and a switchblade in his backpack. This whole time my heart was racing. I was so glad Corey had not approached him, although Corey says he could have and would have taken him if he started anything. They lead the man out to the curb and searched all his stuff and found a little bit of drugs, not enough to test though and of all things, a laptop computer. They came to talk to us and since I was the one who actually made the phone call I had to talk to them and give them all my information. Of course, this was 5:30 in the morning, so I was looking my very best, and realized a few minutes into talking to them that I still had my Breathe Right nasal strip on my nose. ( I snore, I will admit that). LOVELY!! They did take him away for resisting arrest but couldn't get him for trespassing as we hadn't asked him to leave, and although nothing serious happened I was just a little creeped out by the whole thing. I was a little leary when I opened the front blinds this morning that I might find someone sitting there. After all that, we were pretty wide awake so there was no sense in going back to bed so we just decided to get on with the day.

Thankfully, the rest of the morning wasn't nearly as eventful. The boys got up and were upset that Hailey was still asleep and they couldn't go downstairs to see if the Easter Bunny had come to fill their baskets. Hailey eventually wandered out of bed, and they went down to hunt for eggs. It was a good Easter morning and we made to church on time. Barely though, because I was trying to get a good picture of the kids in their Easter clothes. Not a lot of luck on that though.

Happy Easter- 2009

Movin' on Up

I actually bought Hailey this bed quite awhile ago, but we just had not gotten it put together. Corey's parents came to spend conference weekend with us, so we took advantage of having a extra pair of hands for all the lifting, rearranging, and assembling and got the bed put up. She has been so excited about it. I took her to target to pick up pink sheets and a new pillow and she could barely wait until bedtime. We don't have all her bedding yet, but she doesn't care. I worried how she would make the transition-the first night she did get up several times-I think it was just the novelty that she could get in and out, but last night I never heard a peep from her.

She also has picked up on the potty training thing really well. It took a couple of days for her to clue in to the whole process, but she hasn't had problems since. I guess my baby really isn't a baby anymore.

Just a little backwards

One of the worst things about being a parent is potty training. Even though I have already potty trained three boys, I really feel like I still have no idea what I am doing. I have tried many different things and asked a lot of people for advice. I just really think that each kid is so different that each time you do it the method becomes different.

I decided this past Monday I would try with Hailey. I knew she was capable and certainly old enough. So I filled a jar with potty treats, bought fun underwear, and was stocked with fluids for the offering.

We spent a lot of time that day trying to drink enough to give her plenty of opportunity and spent an even greater amount of time in the bathroom reading books, singing, and conversing about Kung Fu Panda. We had some success and some accidents, but continued on. She would go on the toilet about as many times as she would have accidents.

Yesterday, she got up and went potty, but I had to go to the doctor so I put a diaper on so we would not have to worry about accidents. When I got home she was still dry, but didn't need to go, so I just left the diaper on until the next trip to the bathroom. Well, she kept that diaper dry all day. I have always been of the opinion that diapers, pull-ups, etc. don't work and that it's just better to go straight to underwear, but like I said each kid is different. Hailey certainly is. Today, it has been the same, the diaper has been dry and she continues to go on the potty. Weird. If I had put the underwear on she would have wet through it, as she had all week. I just think that is so backwards!! It just proves my theory that they each require their own method, the method that they choose.

Well, we are certainly not home free, but enough progress has been made that we can't go back now, so we will continue to continue on. Oh the joys of motherhood!!
Little pregnacy update:
As I mentioned before, I went for my monthly appointment yesterday. All is well. I even lost two pounds, I am totally fine with that. However, last month I was measuring 3 weeks ahead and now I am still measuring 2 1/2 weeks ahead. Now, I am worried about how big this baby will end up being. Also, given my history of progressing a little early, the doctor told me to use common sense and just be cautious from here on out. Basically not over do it and maybe take a nap each day and not spend a lot of time on my feet.
Easier said than done-although the nap thing, I think I could handle that.
