Weekend review

It was a pretty quiet weekend around here. I managed to break away and get my hair and nails done. I have never, ever had my nails done so it was a real treat. I think I could get used to it though.

The kids did some swimming and had a water fight. It's getting a little old that it's still warm enough to do those things. Although change is coming, the night is certainly getting a little cooler because the pool is not staying warm enough to tempt me to dive in anymore. I am just waiting for the afternoons to change too. I have always had it with the heat this time of year.
It's all fun and games around here.

Well it's fun until you have to give up control of the hose and then the fun is over.
Even if Carter is having fun, having his picture taken is not his idea of fun.
Then it's always nice to come in and warm up by putting on warm boots. Boots and swimsuits are all the rage around our house.

Another weekend getaway and a red sports car

We have been getting away a lot lately, but last week was our 16th wedding anniversary so Corey and I felt that warranted a little trip for just the two of us.

(this is a picture from one of our first dates, the "tight wad ball" at Dixie College)
We decided we would fly to Pheonix. I have never been there and figured why not. Also I have not been on an airplane since I was 12 so this was a good way to start. I do get a little motion sick though so I just don't think I will ever love it.  My two nieces came and stayed with the kids and took great care of them so I didn't have to worry one bit about things here.

The funniest part of the trip was when we went to pick up our rental car. It was a red mustang. Corey is not a mustang fan, at all, and he doesn't like red sports cars either, so it was a little ironic. I had to giggle a little every time we went to get in it. (although I think he felt a little better about it when we returned it and a guy behind us was returning a bright lime green mustang, red looked a little better then!)

We really didn't have to do much, anytime we get some time alone together it's great. We drove all over just to see the area, found some great places to eat, and did some some shopping. I even slept in, until 9:30!! I honestly can't even remember the last time that was even a thought.

The flight home was a little more eventful. The whole flight is less than an hour, but less than 20 minutes in we had to turn around. There was problem with the pressure and we couldn't get above 10,000 feet. They had to turn off all the air conditioning and that just made my motion sickness worse. It was not fun and I came way to close to losing my lunch. Once we landed, Corey found me some dramamine and the next flight was much better. That stuff will just have to be my flying partner from now on.

Despite the mustang, and motion sickness it was a great time away. I am looking forward to the next time we can sneak away.

To my one and only favorite sister

We could talk and talk until we are blue in the face about all the things we like about you, but most of all, for today, we want you to have a very...

...wish we could be there to celebrate with you!!!

Little Miss

These are just a couple of funny pictures I took of Emery last week. I had to document her entertaining herself because I think it's the only time she did last week. She didn't know what to do with herself without the kids at home.
This week has been completely different. I think she discovered the beauty of playing by herself. She has free reign and no one to bug here. She has literally spent hours by herself in the toy room. I didn't think we would make it last week, she was under my feet every time I turned around or begging to go somewhere, but now we are pulling through. She also started back up with speech therapy and will start gymnastics next week so hopefully that will help pass some of the time.

(notice her outfit... she picked it out when I was shopping for back to school and it's now her favorite. Whenever it's clean, it's on. I may have to hide it just so we only see it once a week or so.)

Another quick trip

Labor day weekends are usually spent with Corey's family. However Corey's parents were out of town to help his sister move. We weren't sure what to do with ourselves, but we knew we didn't want to waste the long weekend and do something fun with the kids. We started with a night at the drive in. It's only the 2nd time we have gone, but it was so much fun. We were dead tired before the double feature of Brave and The Avengers was over, Emery slept for 3 hours of it and the others were pretty close to sleep, in fact all were passed out on the way home, but it was worth the time spent together.

We decided we would spend the rest of the long weekend in St. George. After living there for so many years it still feels like home to us so we love to go and spend time there. We are usually passing through on our way to visit Corey's family, but not always staying. We didn't have a lot planned, but we were able to just relax, swim, and eat at our favorite Pizza Factory. Staying in a hotel is enough of a vacation for the kids, but we also decided we would take in some of the church historical sites there. In all the years I lived there I had never done that, and Corey hadn't been since he was a young kid, so we figured it was about time.

Our first stop...
It was really fascinating. I always love taking a little glimpse into the past. All the details are so interesting and certainly make you appreciate all our modern conveniences we have. The kids were thoroughly entertained too. So much so that Carter was even taking his own pictures, that's always good sign.

We made our way to the Jacob Hamblin home in Santa Clara.

This house was definitely much more rustic, but still just as fun.
Brendan and Hailey were fascinated with the lye soap.

We accomplished a lot this weekend. We were able to travel, eat some good food, sleep in a hotel, make our trip educational, and spend some time together. I love it when we are able to make it all happen.
